I couldn’t help myself! When I was offered a free Silky Cock this weekend … I just couldn’t refuse!

What girl would?

It was my chance to make disgusting innuendos for the rest of the week.

The just love him and have decided to call him Seddle. What? I can’t explain their choice, but his name is Seddle.

John’s footy team is into the finals after a thrilling win against Mt Pleasant on the weekend!

The man behind the camera capturing the action is Matt Newton.

Matt took the author shot of me years ago that features on my novels. I’ve aged since then after two kids. I’m no Cher — that’s for sure!

It’s been a few years, but now Matt’s back in our lives with Roar Film director, Steve Thomas who is making an SBS Independent documentary called Alive and Kicking.

The four-part series features four Tassie country footy clubs including our wonderful Woodsdale team.

Look out for it in March 2008 on SBS where you’ll see yours truly and my hubby John … (maybe wearing a G-string) It is SBS mind you … which stands for ‘Sex Between Soccer’.

Bad backs and Bill

This is Bill. Very cute. He was due to fly to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains next week for a new life when his purchaser contacted us to say he’d been hopitalised with a bad back and was now unable to take on a young pup.

So Bill is still with us and still for sale. In the mean time, we’ll continue training him up to be a loyal happy sheepdog.

We’re also starting his brother, Lumpy too. I called him Lumpy because he was a real lump as a pup, not because he was thick!

Oh, what a lifestyle!

Horse riding in the morning, bush walking in the afternoon – what a life we lead here!

We’re puting some time in with our young horses and so our friends Allison and KJ came for a ride on Sunday where we checked the stock, the back runs and enjoyed the bush.

We also took a bush walk to the Levendale Waterfall, which is the head of the Prosser River.

This week, John is taking his school kids for the annual walk to the falls so we need to check out the track.

On the way we left the Levendale kids a little surprise… one of Rosie’s bush babies.

Spring has sprung

spring sheepThere is nothing more joyful than seeing the result of rainfall. Here’s some new pasture that we’d set aside for our lambing ewes. After I moved them onto the paddock last week I just stood and listened to them tearing at the grass, heads down, eating happlily. The girls were delighted to be moved onto such luxurious feed after barren winter conditions. The first lamb arrived the next day.

‘Boring’ men!

water drill

It was so interesting to talk to the boring men this week.

We are drought proofing our property and have sunk a 78 metre deep bore and tapped into some beautiful stock water with ultra low salinity and a lovely mix of minerals.

We shouldn’t need to use the water that much given the recent rainfalls, but it’s great to have it there in case, as water has been such an issue for our property in the past few years.

So thanks to Kerry, Dan and Darren for bringing your brand new drill to our place!

Rain!

rain, rain, rain

Wow! We’ve had rain … 65mm came down and for the first time in years we had water laying in the paddocks.

It’s raining again tonight. Yippee.

Hopefully we’ll get a bit of pasture growth just in time for our spring lambs which are due in the first week of September.

Australia’s Latest Sport — No Bull!

no bull

Move aside air-guitar, there’s a new craze in town!

Introducing Air-bull Rodeo! One hundred per cent safe, RSPCA-approved and fun for cowboys and cowgirls of all ages. No Bull.

Devised by my brother-in-law, Ben, after a decade of airbullriding experience at pubs and B&S’s, Air-Bull is set to take Australia by storm.

You can start practicing your air-bullriding style in your own back yard — like brothers John and Ben demonstrate.

We’ve declared Ben to be a Nationally acclaimed air-bullriding champion, and we’ve put in a proposal to launch the inaugural Air-bullriding Championship at the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association Get-Together in 2008.

Should the committee be receptive to this wonderful spectacular, competitors will be let out the chute to air-buck for 8 seconds towards air-rodeo fame.

So buckle-up and get ready for all the thrills and spills of Australia’s newest, craziest sport!

Bedlam!

bed wrecked

Floss is sitting on what once was a nice dog mat. Bedlam!

Luckily my friend, Heidi is setting up her very own business, Stockyard Working Dog Gear and we’ve been asked to road test her first prototype in her working dog range, as Bill demonstrates delow.

As Tassie winters are very cold it would be nice to find something durable that would last in the dog’s kennels.

Let’s hope Heidi develops a product that is tough, easily cleaned and warm for working dogs.

Canine Competition

Mad Max

Recently I was asked to help judge a competition on Andy Muirhead’s morning show on ABC radio. Listeners had phoned in to give their potential name for an ABC TV series about Sheep Dog Trials.

The ABC Top Dog TV trial will be filmed on Hobart’s Domain on November 17-18 and will bring the best three sheep trial dogs of our nation together in one spot. Some of the suggestions for a TV program name were classics … here’s a sample;

K9 Corral
Crossing Rover
Paw Corners
Australia’s Got Fleas
Shut up, Ewes
Collie Wobbles
Mutton Muster
Hawaii Fido
Paws for Thought
Days of Our Dog Tirals
Trial by Ewery
The Sheepshank Redemption

My favourites were Crossing Rover and Paw Corners. If you want to find out about the serious side of the trial click here.

As for the puppy pictured above, he’s Di & Max’s son, Lumpy.

Max is a former three sheep trial winner and is turning out to be a handy farm dog, moving from mobs of 3 sheep to 300 with ease.

Lumpy is for sale if anyone is interested, you can submit a comment to Allan, my webmaster and he can assist.
