Barbeque lamb!

I picked this barbecue up for five bucks at a clearing sale thinking it would be handy for something! It turns out it’s a great place to put our stock licks for our sheep.
Here are our weaner ewe lambs enjoying the mineral mixes of Olsson’s lick blocks. A strange sight to see lambs enjoying a barbie for a change!

We’re experiencing very tough drought conditions at the moment.
To help our stock through on the dry feed, we need to keep their gut flora really healthy to help them digest the summer grasses.
We’re trialing the Olsson’s Indicator System. In this system we offer four types of protein, energy and mineral licks so the stock can select which minerals they need at differing times.
They are great at self-medicating and it means we can tell what they may be lacking. (It means they fart a lot less so it is more environmentally friendly too!)
The scientist who came to our district to talk about ruminant animals and the benefits of supplements, Dr Rob Leng, has been forecasting agricultural trends accurately for many years.
He gave a very frightening talk on the future of our world and food supply.
America is putting so much of their food producing land into bio-fuel crops now that there is going to be a massive world wide shortage of grain.
This means any agricultural systems based on grain and fossil fuels will really struggle.
We are lucky to be in two streams of food production — wool and naturally grazed meat — that requires very little chemical and fossil fuel inputs.
It’s now up to Aussie’s to take on eating more wallaby too … because it’s another low cost and enviro-friendly form of meat.
