Dog SpeakDog Speak

Rachael first wrote a dog-training book in 2007 as part of a Rural Women’s Bursary. Her aim back then was to encourage more rural women to jump the fence into the world of working dog training.

This revised edition is now a must read for all humans, young and old, male or female who want a better connection with their dog, whether a city pooch or a working dog.

Dog Speak covers the basics of puppy training for all dogs, showing Rachael’s techniques of integrating dogs into family life with children and other animals, including horses.

The book reveals her methods of foundation training for working dogs based on the concepts of many leading Australian stockmen and dog educators.

If you are looking for improved finances for the farm business, stress-free stock handling, safety for children around dogs or a more pleasant trail ride for you and your horse, this book is the starting point for you to become a better communicator with dogs.

Are you ready to jump the fence and party with your dog?

trip-to-town-coverTrip to Town

This story is the very early beginnings of my character Rebecca in my first novel, Jillaroo. It’s written with the voice of a child and I guess the process of me writing it was to find my way through Rebecca’s back-story and discover a place to start a novel.

The actual event in town did really happen to my uncle and my cousin who re-tell the story so well and we still all fall about laughing! I think the story was published in a ‘Working Dog Story’ competition in The Land newspaper around 1999.

Two HatsTwo Hats

Here's a piece from my university days, writtten in my early twenties, about the two sides of being a farm girl - one dressed up and the other dressed down. This poem stems from the notion that dressing up and socialising is in some way, not my true self.
